Need a Hand with Something Digital? AFCHQ’s Free Drop-In Support Is Here to Help

Forgotten a password? Struggling to access NHS services online? Need help applying for your Veterans ID card? Or perhaps you have a new phone or laptop and just need someone to help you get it set up.

Sometimes, you just need someone to sit down with you and help you get something sorted. That’s exactly what AFCHQ’s Digital Essentials for Life and for Work sessions are designed to do. Running from mid September to mid December, there’s plenty of opportunity to get involved.

Our free, flexible digital support is available at locations across Greater Manchester and Cheshire, giving members of the Armed Forces community somewhere they can turn when technology gets in the way.

You Decide What You Need Help With

There’s no set programme to follow and no expectation that everyone who comes through the door wants to learn the same thing.

Instead, we start with a simple question:

What do you want help with today?

That might be:

  • Setting up an email account
  • Recovering a forgotten password
  • Using MyGP or NHS online services
  • Setting up or using your Veterans ID card
  • Accessing benefits or government services online
  • Creating an online CV for work or volunteering
  • Setting up a phone, tablet or other device
  • Or simply getting more comfortable doing everyday things online

The support is individual-led, so we focus on what’s right for you and what you actually need to get done.

Come Once, Drop In When You Need Us or Come Regularly

You might have one problem you need to get sorted and never need to see us again, or you might have several things you’d like help with and want to come along regularly and work through them at your own pace.

All options are absolutely fine. There’s no pressure and no commitment, you choose how much support you need.

Bringing Digital Support to the Whole Family – 31st October

We’re also holding a special family-focused Halloween event at AFCHQ Wigan on 31st October.

The same practical digital support available through our regular drop-ins will be there, but this time we’re creating an opportunity designed around the whole family.

Bring the family. Bring your digital questions. We’ll help with the rest.

Perhaps there are several digital jobs your household has been putting off. Maybe someone needs help accessing an online service while someone else wants help with their device. Or you might simply want to know what’s available and ask a few questions.

Whatever brings you through the door, the approach remains the same: you tell us what you need help with and we’ll work through it with you at your own pace.

Digital Essentials for Life and for Work

Technology is now part of so many everyday tasks, from booking appointments and accessing services to looking for work and staying connected.

When something isn’t working or you’re not sure what to do next, even a relatively small problem can become frustrating. Our Digital Essentials sessions are about making that easier.

This is just flexible, practical support with the digital things that matter to you.

Whether you need one thing fixed, occasional help when something comes up or more regular support, come and see us.
