Mental Health Services
Whatever you’re facing, you don’t have to face it alone.
At Armed Forces Community HQ, we offer a compassionate and confidential space to explore any concerns around your mental health or wellbeing. Whether you’re a veteran, currently serving, or a family member or carer, we’ll work alongside you to understand your needs and plan a way forward — together.
After an initial wellbeing conversation or triage, you’ll be supported with either self-referral or guidance from one of our friendly Wellbeing Navigators or Peer Mentors, who often have lived experience of military life.
Please note: we do not offer crisis mental health support. If you are in immediate need, we would recommend speaking first with your GP, NHS Op COURAGE or presenting at A&E.
Counselling
A safe space to talk — at your pace, on your terms.
Our small team of qualified psychotherapists includes those with direct experience of Armed Forces life. We provide a range of person-centred therapies including talking therapy, CBT, Rewind Therapy, and relationship counselling.
Whatever you’re going through — stress, trauma, anxiety, grief, or uncertainty — we’re here to listen, without judgement. We’ll support you in finding understanding, new perspectives, and a sense of personal growth.
If needed, we can also help you access external services, manage clinical referrals, or support you while you wait for additional care. This might also include providing interventions whilst you are waiting to access other treatment, or identifying specialist services such as substance misuse, learning disabilities, or complex needs.
Primary & Secondary Care
Helping you understand your options, and get the care you deserve.
Navigating the NHS isn’t always easy, especially when it comes to Armed Forces-specific pathways. Our team is here to simplify the process and advocate for your needs.
From registering with a Veteran-Friendly GP to accessing specialist care through the Op RESTORE service, we’re here to walk with you every step of the way and help you get the treatment you need.
Physical & Mental Wellbeing
Small steps. Big changes. We offer a range of supportive activities based on the Five Ways to Wellbeing — helping you feel more connected, confident, and in control of your health.
Be active
Join our walking group, five-a-side football, or explore our Community Garden. We also partner with local providers for gym access, climbing, hiking and personal training options — all tailored to your pace and needs. Regular physical activity is associated with lower rates of depression and anxiety across all age groups.
Take notice
Life can feel overwhelming, and it’s easy to get stuck on autopilot. With the support of our Wellbeing Navigators, learn to be more present — more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and surroundings. We’ll help you develop simple, mindful habits to feel calmer and more in tune with yourself.
Learn
Learning can boost your self-confidence, give you purpose, and open new doors. You might explore a creative hobby, take up gardening or try something hands-on like DIY or woodwork. If you’re thinking about the future, we can help you access training or workshops to support your personal or professional goals.
Give
Giving doesn’t have to be grand or complicated. It can be something as simple as making a brew, offering your time, or being a listening ear for someone who needs it. Volunteer with us as a mentor, lend a hand at HQ, or get involved in our Veterans Maintenance Service.
Connect
Connection is at the heart of wellbeing — and at AFCHQ, it’s what we’re all about. Drop into Molyneux House anytime Monday to Friday, 9am–5pm. You’ll always be met with warmth, respect and a brew. Join our free membership and access a regular programme of inclusive events. Our NAAFI Café is open on Mondays and Fridays — a welcoming space to meet others and feel part of something.
Support that makes a difference
